The second half of the book Unbowed, which was all about Wangari’s later years in life, was very interesting. Wangari overcame many obstacles to do what she believed was right. She never took “no” for an answer and she never gave up on anything. While leading the Green Belt Movement, which took much criticism, she also was a big leader in stopping the Times Complex from being built in the Uhuru Park. This took many years of asking for help and rallying a campaign against the construction of the building. If the building was created it would have almost completely taken out the park and its natural environment. “These trees, like Saba Saba, inspired me. They showed me that, no matter how much you try to destroy it, you can’t stop the truth and justice from sprouting.”(207) Wangari leads her life by this and is why she is fighting for the environment, because it is the right thing to do.
Not only does Wangari stand up for the environment thought the book but also for people’s rights. In 1992 Wangari also stood up for mothers who's sons had been imprisoned for political agitation. This campaign lasted over a year of the mothers going on hunger strikes and informing other countries such as the U.S about what was going on. This was another long struggle that Wangari was a part of which she fought for what she believed was right.
I agree what mike said, how she never gave up and wouldn’t take no for an answer. I think that by her doing that is how she got far because she was always doing what she wanted. I also like how he mentioned the movements and the leader in which she took place in, we know from reading it wasn’t easy for her to do but it must have taken so much work. The final thing that I like which mike said was “ In 1992 Wangari also stood up for mothers whose sons had been imprisoned for political agitation.” This really makes me look up to her in a way as an inspiration because I don’t know anyone that would stand up for themselves like Wangari did.
