Rivers & Tides

In the movie Rivers and Tides, it starred Andy Goldsworthy and his amazing artistic abilities. All of his work is done in the natural world using natural materials that he gets from the outdoors. Andy clearly has a passion for his work and it shows in the movie. He attempted the same sculpture many times after it had fallen and he never seems to get too discouraged. When looking at images of his work, you can notice he works a lot with holes and circles. He explains that a bit by saying, "The underlying tension of a lot of my art is to try and look through the surface appearance of things. Inevitably, one way of getting beneath the surface is to introduce a hole, a window into what lies below." Many of his works feature that “window” that he mentions. I love looking at his work because it is unlike art that I usually see. It is natural art made entirely from things found in the natural world and I like that aspect of this work. His passion for his projects is really shown in the movie and when he explains his work and why he loves it, you can tell he puts his heart and soul into every project. Another beautiful aspect of some of his projects is the vibrant color used. It really draws the attention of whoever is viewing it. Overall, I enjoyed learning about him and his work.
