Through the last half of the book it seem like everything she did was a struggle. Wangari would not quit on something or back down but it was a fight for everything. Just from the beginning she got a divorce and was taken to court to get separation from Mwangi. Who excused her of adultery and the really reason behind the divorce was that he could not deal with the fact that Wangari was a well educated woman. She though through this and did back down and this case that might have gone against her because of this attitude the judge put her in jail for contempt of court for some comments she made outside the case about the judge’s bias. It seemed like everything she was doing was right but because she was an African woman she had someone fighting her the whole way through. Like when she NCWK chairman she lost by three vote and the deciding factor was they didn’t want an ethic battle. Many people in Kenya and the president believed that the image of Kiikuyus influence should be taken out of politics. The reasoning behind picking a chairman that is not kikuyus was just an excuse; they didn’t want to have her as the chairman because that positions usually the president’s friend and give him support so that the peoples support would follow. They knew that Wangari an educated woman would not give the president her word, so to not take any chances they needed to put someone else as chairman. But through all this struggle of power not once did her back down and give up she would later try and run for chairman again.
