I agree with him that solar panels and shorter showers wont save world because is either to little to help or causes more harm then it helps. He writes this for people who all ready agree with him on the subject, I do not agree with him on everything so I question where he gets his information from like statistics. I didn’t like how he was all about taking down big corporations because this is America and it’s a free country. I think he would hurt his cause for cleaning up the environment by telling people to stop doing to little things because the little things help draw attention to the bigger problems.

CHD Center

This morning I took a stroll down to Franklin Hall to visit the Center for Human Development, or CHD located on the second floor of the building. The Center for Human Development is designed to help inform and counsel students to enhance their understanding and practices in career, academic or personal growth areas. They may also provide assistance when it comes to job searches, internships and the molding of career paths. The center offers, advising, counseling, testing, career services, job and internship resources, and graduate school resources, faculty is very helpful in guiding students toward their preferred courses of action while offering support. The Center for Human Development may also administer tests that are necessary in advancing one's education suh as the PRAXIS and the MAT, they also may provide students with practice tests and study guides from the campus Career Library. Another plus of the CHD Is their Counseling Services. This allows students to have one on one meetings with an on-campus counselor who may heed and direct students who are having a difficult time with practically anything, from alcohol/ drug abuse to stress and anxiety. The CHD has many different services in order to accommodate students of any year. I have yet to tap into any resources that the CHD has to offer but I have contacted the Office of Academic Support here on campus. I found their assistance to be extremely helpful.
When looking around the CHD Office I noticed many pamphlets of information that were avaliable. This information had a wide range of concerns or interests students may have. From its many testing services to its career services events calendar. The Center of Human Development is like a staples, "that was easy" button on Jump-starting a Career and Obtaining Useful tools to help with the process. The CHD and its many advantages is an excellent, reliable source of tips and advice that will help ambitious students remain on track.

When I asked Judy Burdick what her favorite aspect about working at the Center of Human Development was she quickly responded, "The Students". The fact the not only do they do an excellent job at providing information but they enjoy allocating students with their chosen careers or interests. The Center for Human Development provides a place where students may access helpful assistance, information and services to further themselves as life long learners.

CHD

I visited the Center for Human Development today and found a good resource for students on campus. The Center for Human Development is a place to gain information and receive counseling for academic, career and personal growth issues. Assistance with getting a career such as writing resumes, interviews and job searches can be found at the CHD, to name a few. There are also counselors available for a variety of reasons from disorders, anxiety or family problems. Another job of the CHD is offering tests such as PRAXIS, MAT and CLEP and assistance preparing for such tests. There are also people at the CHD ready to advise students who want to change majors or just need some help adjusting. Pretty much, the goal of the CHD is to help students wherever they can in the whole process of college. I spoke to Judy who works at the CHD and she told me her favorite part of working there would be the students. It's a great resource for students for a variety of issues, and is run by people who genuinely want to help students find their way. I found the pamphlets on career assistance particularly helpful to me in my future as a college student and it's good to know there's people there is I ever need advise. I think the CHD is like a safety net there just in case we need a little help or push. An object I noticed at the CHD was the shelf with lots of helpful books on a variety of things.

Center For Human Development

Today I visited the Center for Human Development Center on the second floor in Franklin Hall. This was the first time I had ever been there so to find it I looked it up on the Farmington website and was able to find out more information about it. In my picture is Judy Burdick, she was wonderful and very helpful. She says her favorite part about working for the CHD is the students. Students don't always come in and visit with a positive outlook, but in time and with some positive encouragement and advice students are right on their way.

At the CHD you can find many answers to your questions. As well as resources that you may need to come across in your 4 year at UMF. I might find the CHD useful for questions about the Praxis test. I took Praxis I this fall, but will need to take Praxis II at some point in my college career. The best analogy I can think of for the CHD is that its like a tool set. When you need to fix something or touch up a project you open up your tool box and you find all the answers. That's what the CHD is like, when you go in there your going to leave with answers to your questions. One thing I noticed in Franklin Hall were the small study rooms. I never knew they were there and I could probably look into using them at some point in my career. Overall it was a successful visit and a place I could potentially visit in the future.

Center For Human Development

Today I went to go visit UMF's Center for Human Development (CHD). I found out on their website that they were located on the second floor of Franklin Student Success Center. I talked to Lori Hutchinson when I went in, and that is also who my picture was taken with. She said that her favorite part about her job was working with the age group of kids who are eighteen to twenty-two. She said she loves seeing them progress and work through beginning a new life.

The CHD has really useful resources, such as the Math Clinic and the Writing Center. I have used both of these resources during my first semester at UMF and they were definitely great experiences. The students they have working there were so helpful and knew exactly what they were talking about! You can also find any counseling services you may need at the CHD. Whether it be academic, personal, or career counseling, there will always be someone at the CHD to talk to. The CHD is like a great best friend- it is there for you when you need someone to talk to or help you through a rough time, whether it is a relationship issue or just issues with writing a paper for a class. The one object I noticed in the CHD office was old, creaky stairs you walk up to get to the second floor. They were so elegant and reminded me of my great grandmothers old house from when I was a young child.

Arboretum Tour: Northern Red Oak (Quercus rubra)

My favorite tree from the Arboretum Tour was the Northern Red Oak, mostly because it's so large and aged. Big trees like this one bring me back to childhood and warm weather because they're perfect to rest under and play on. I found it interesting that this oak is the only native one in Farmington too. Oak trees are commonly used for things such as furniture, housing and lumber because they're hard and strong which is another interesting fact about the Northern Red Oak. I do prefer this beauty in the ground though, nowadays it's rare that such a huge and useful tree remains in the ground. Trees that clearly have a lot of history like this one, are eye-catching and have scars from nature that tell many stories. Oak trees also remind me of my hometown area, New Gloucester just because it's such a rural place filled with trees. It takes such a long time for trees to grow and especially now that they all have their own uses for people, it's rare and neat for such a huge, old tree to stay where it was planted.

CHD

When I went and visited CHD I talked with Lori Hutchinson the program coordinator. She told me about the different services that were located there, a few of them were Disability accommodations, math clinic, writing clinic, and testing center. Those are a just a few of the many things they provide. Loris favorite part about working at the CHD is she loves the students and loves to help and learn about where they’re going to go in their lives.

Above were some of the things that are useful to me and probably are to others but I feel that the math clinic and writing clinic are the most useful because I can go into the math clinic and understand something I didn’t in class or go to the writing center and have them look over my paper. The things that are useful at the CHD are, you can go there for help with a resume or finding a job for the summer or when you get out of school. An analogy that I would compare the CHD to would be the study center from my high school. The one object that I noticed from the CHD was all the pamphlets that have all there different services. And you cannot forget all the wonderful people that work there. They are all extremely friendly and are wiling to help you if you are having problems or just need someone to talk to. If I had a problem or needed to talk to someone I would feel comfortable going there.
